If you’re one of those people who often wonder how you can live a better lifestyle, one of the things that you may contemplate is your diet. People are so used to the convenience of fast foods in our everyday hectic lives. What you need to remember is that in order to function optimally, you need to fuel your body in the best possible way. In this blog post, I’m going to share with you, reasons why eating a plant-based diet is one of the absolute best decisions you will ever make.
To begin with, look back at this past week and think about everything you ate for each breakfast, lunch and dinner. Did you even eat breakfast? Maybe you skipped a meal or two because you were busy getting the kids off to school or you had a meeting over lunch. On your drive home, you were so hungry you stopped by a popular fast food chain to grab something quick to hold you over until dinner time. By doing this, you’ve done two things: you’ve likely eaten enough calories in that fast food to represent one half of your daily caloric intake and secondly, you have ruined your appetite for dinner and you may feel fatigued after dinner because of what you ate.
I remember hearing a long time ago, this saying, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. I have never forgotten those words ever and I think about them when I’m driving into work realizing I have forgotten to pack a lunch!
It’s often overlooked at how little calories are in fruits and vegetables. You could literally eat an entire large stalk of celery and only consume 9 calories. Now multiply that by 8 stalks which are in a bunch and that’s merely 72 calories. You would be full, I know I would be! Sure, celery may not be satisfying to those who are used to eating fast food a few times a week, but since you are here, reading this post, contemplating your reasons to start eating more plant-based foods, let’s talk about the great health benefits that some of these foods have.
Celery is full of vitamins and nutrients such as Vitamins A, K and C. It is also rich in potassium and folate. Celery is also known for its benefits with regards to your blood sugar. So rather than consume all of that sodium rich fast food, why not fuel your body with something healthy like a few chopped celery sticks on your way home from work?
The next time you are ready to go grocery shopping, sit down and get out a piece of paper and a pen and start making a list of fruits and vegetables that will make easy, no mess snacks for your trip home. Once you get home, make the effort to wash and prepare those fruits and vegetables for quick access when making your lunch the next morning. Do not fail to plan because you will plan to fail!
Conclusion
So now we’ve established that by eating plant based foods, you can decrease the number of calories you’re eating in a day, but more importantly, we’ve also determined that you’re fueling your body, or your vessel as I sometimes say to myself, in the best way we can to function optimally. As an added bonus, some people lose weight by eating a plant based diet. Now that you’ve read this information, what will your next between meals snack look like?
