This post runs down the highlights from our weekend past. If you are new to my blog, welcome! And if you have been here awhile, thank you so much for coming back.
This week, I have much more content to share with you now that I’m feeling better. The infamous covid cough lingers, but overall, I’m more alert and functional. Thank goodness!

So the big question is … When do you start decorating for Christmas? It really depends. In my earlier years, it was a tradition to wait until the first weekend in December. Last year, was the first year that I brought out the tree in November and to be honest, I’m glad I did. Christmas is my all-time favourite holiday in the world. Having three kids has always been my motivation. I wanted to make it seem magical for them. Now that my two oldest are 18 and 19, it seems less important, but I do have a twelve year old that I still very much want to make Christmas magic for him.
This year, I am even earlier with the outdoor Christmas decorations. I decided that I was going to switch from real to faux garland and I’m so glad that I did. The faux garland seems so much fuller and majestic. I picked up this garland at Canadian Tire. It comes non-lit, has pinecones and is nine feet long. Every year, I add burlap bows to the garland for more impact. Four lengths of garland was long enough to do two sides of my full width front porch. I’m literally on the fence about doing the last side or not. It’s honestly not necessary since I don’t see it, but it is visible from the road just a smidge.
I also light up the windows at the front of the house. I use the Holiday Time indoor/outlights from Walmart. They don’t last forever, but they are so affordable that it makes it such a no-brainer to use them. They come in bright white and warm white … oh and multi-colours. I love the clear warm lights myself. They are traditional and classic all at the same time. I use the same lights on the garland shown here below.
I also took down our porch ferns and donated them. I advertised locally on-line that I had free ferns and they all went. This is my first year doing this and I’m so glad I did and that they may survive this coming winter in someone’s home. If I didn’t have 4 cats, I would have kept them myself.
I am elated with how the garland turned out. I hope I’ve inspired you just a little bit when styling your outdoor areas. If you’d like to see more, please leave a comment below.
Here’s a little story for you. For the past 12 years, we’ve had a special visit from Santa Claus himself on Christmas Eve. Last year, was the last year he personally stopped in to wish the boys a Merry Christmas. I’m sad those days are behind us now, but I’m forever grateful for the memory the boys will have of Christmas Eve. What are your special Christmas traditions? Maybe elf on the shelf? Let me know.
Sunday, I did a little bit of shopping. I picked up and put together a side/end table for my mom from Walmart. My twelve year old built it with a little direction from Mom. He loves building things so he had a lot of fun with this project.
I also COULD NOT get Countryside Carla out of my head, so I headed over to Lulu & Lavigne and picked one up. She’s so cute. You can see where you can purchase one for yourself here.
That was my weekend in a nutshell. I was just so happy to be well enough to get out this weekend. Aside from the decorating, I also raked more leaves just in time for the snow. Yes, we had our first snowfall of the season here on Sunday afternoon!
