Today’s post is about how to put together a Holiday Hot Chocolate Station in your home. They are so fun for kids and adults alike. I’ve been making a hot chocolate station for our three boys for years now. The first year, was the most exciting for them. It was especially appreciated when they walked home after school on cold winter days and were able to go straight to the hot chocolate station and prepare themselves a nice cup of warm chocolatey goodness when they got home.
What You Need:
- kettle;
- mugs;
- measuring spoons or spoons;
- battery operated whisk (optional), these do a great job of mixing the powder in thoroughly;
- cocoa powder or hot chocolate mix;
- marshmallows;
- toppings (optional) such as sprinkles, cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, candy canes, whip cream, be creative!
- containers for all the condiments and the cocoa powder or hot chocolate mix;
- décor such as ribbons, bows, nutcrackers, faux wild life or anything that will suit your holiday or event.
Let’s Get Started.
I like to start with the mug station. You can either use hooks to hang your mugs up or like me, you can use a 3-tiered tray. We honestly don’t need this many mugs these days since our two older boys are away at school, but I kept the 3-tiered tray for those couple of weeks during the holidays that they are home. You can also just line up your mugs neatly to one side of your station, keeping room for all the other necessities beside them.
I’ve had this set of four matching red cups for a few years now. They seemed like the perfect size for the boys at the time. Now that they have grown up, I thought larger mugs would be appreciated. These gorgeous plaid mugs were also a “want” item to go with the plaid holiday theme I have this year. I picked them up at a local store called Lulu & Lavigne here in Hamilton. I’d been eyeing them for a couple of weeks, so I was happy to see that they still had them in stock when I dropped in yesterday. Yay for me … lol.
Next, try creating an aesthetically pleasing condiment station by keeping all the containers similar. I like to use glass containers so that I can see the ingredients inside. You can get them at the Dollar Store or Dollarama. The largest glass container I am using here is for the chocolate powder mix so that I don’t have to keep filling it up. I use mason jars for the toppings. They are easy to access and also fun to dress up with ribbon as I’ve done here. You can also use single serving hot chocolate packets and put them in a basket.
Choose condiments that your kids/guests will enjoy. Over the years, I’ve included marshmallows, sprinkles, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon and whip cream with candy canes in a jar. Pour each condiment into its own container or jar. Now let’s make these jars look festive! Use ribbon to tie a bow around the neck of the jar and voila! You have a hot chocolate station.
To take your hot chocolate station to the next level, simply add a little décor around your station. For this holiday station, I’ve used a fun nutcracker, some wooden reindeer and some jute balls.
The Result.
Now you have a festive holiday hot chocolate station for your kids and guests to enjoy! Set it up early, so it can be enjoyed for the coming colder months ahead. I keep mine up until the end of February. That seems long, but here in SW Ontario, Canada, we get pretty cold days thru February.
