This post runs down the highlights from our weekend past. If you are new to my blog, welcome! And if you have been here awhile, thank you so much for coming back.
The first week of November brought illness into our home again. This time I was fighting COVID-19, so we had a very lay-low weekend. The good news is, I have turned a corner and am headed back to good health.
I watched a lot of Netflix so scroll to the bottom for movie suggestions.
For two days, I was a couch potato, the following two days, I didn’t leave my bed, although Friday, I was feeling a bit more alert. Saturday, I checked the weather app to see what the forecast was and it was perfectly timed with a gorgeous day ahead. I got up. I took a shower. I got dressed and went downstairs. There was a slight hiccup in there somewhere.
I hadn’t had much of an appetite in the past few days, so I was a little undernourished. I had to ask my little guy to bring me something to eat. He brought me a small bowl of vegetable soup which I greatly appreciated followed by a tall order of finger-shaking lol. He had been asking me frequently over those past two days if I wanted anything to eat, but I just didn’t have an appetite. He followed up with, “You always tell me that I need to eat when I’m sick”. He’s such a smart and caring soul. So grateful to have him taking care of me.
So Saturday I took some time to take stock of what my main living space now looked like in my absence … the livingroom, the foyer … the kitchen! Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t all that bad. I guess with my oldest being in isolation upstairs and my youngest keeping to his own room, there really wasn’t much mess to be made so I did a quick tidy up and opened my back door to fill my lungs with fresh air. It was a gorgeous sunny day. The sky was blue. The trees are mostly still covered with Fall coloured leaves. The exception is our Ash tree which at the moment, looks dead.
I walked the back yard first taking note of everything that needs to be done once I fully recover. Rake leaves is first on the list. I also need to cut back my hostas and peonies. Then I went to my front yard. I walked straight out to the sidewalk and took a look left and right along the front of the picket fence to see how the sage plants were doing. The sage plants are still looking good and the bees are still buzzing around them. Then, I turned around to head back to the house and when I looked back, I was in utter amazement at the colour of our Japanese Maple tree. It was a beautifully brilliant red and at that time of the morning, the sun was lighting it up so profoundly. I grinned from ear to ear. I’m so glad I did not miss that this year.
After my garden walk, I made myself a cup of tea and sat myself down on my back porch. Friends, I sat comfortably on my back porch all day long until after dark that night. The thermometer read 24C at its highest temperature on Saturday. Just one more blessing we were granted before the cold temperatures are here for good.
Sometime during the late afternoon, I decided to roast our pumpkin seeds from our four jack-o-lanterns. I prefer a savoury flavour so I did a big batch of savoury pumpkin seeds for us to enjoy. I’ll share the recipe later this week. It takes such little effort for such a fun and healthy snack.
Sunday was about 17C, but I stayed inside all day. I cleaned the foyer, ridding it of the clutter that had accumulated from the previous week. Then I enjoyed movies all day long. I’d say I got my money’s worth from Netflix this month. I even re-watched two movies today that I’d already seen.
If you’re looking for a few good movies to add to your queue, here are just a couple of the movies that I enjoyed over the weekend:
1. Chalet Girl
2. Dancing Queens
3. Last Christmas
4. Evening
My oldest left for school this afternoon. What an odd visit this was. He had Reading Week and was home, yet we hardly saw each other. I’ll see him again in a few weeks though so I’ve got that to look forward to.
That was our weekend in a nutshell. I’m sorry I didn’t have much to write about. I do hope that my Maple Tree made you smile today though.

Thanks Cheryl. I’m happy to be feeling much more functional. It’s so hard to lie around doing nothing, but you have to listen to your body sometimes.
