If you’re just starting off as a vegan or plant-based eater, you’ll need to know some of the important staples of what you should keep in your pantry. There is no rigid answer to this and your checklist will change from time to time, but I have compiled a list of what I feel are staple items that I like to keep in my pantry as a long-time plant-based eater.
Before I begin, I wanted to mention that I have a son who has a few allergies that I need to take into consideration, so if you’re wondering why there are items not on my list, it may simply be due to the fact that I can’t have certain foods in my home due to his allergies.
When I first started out as a plant-based eater 12 years ago, I searched on-line for pantry staples and the lists I found seemed to be up for question, however now I see why some of the items were on those lists. I am, however, choosing to add a few non-traditional items to my check list.
We have three boys and they are big eaters. While our kids are not vegan, I still make the majority of our meals plant-based. Each of them has their own individual palette when it comes to taste, so we are constantly cycling around different cultures when it comes to food. For the most part, we enjoy ethnic foods, so you will find curry and coconut milk on my pantry checklist. Your checklist may not include these items if you do not enjoy ethnic foods.
Okay, so here is the checklist. As a new vegan or plant-based eater, it would be a good idea to review this checklist and stock up on these items since you will find yourself needing them for daily if not weekly cooking essentials. Click to download.
