(Personal review)
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed reading my first recipe review that came out earlier this week. I’ve been under the weather this past week and I’m officially on Christmas vacation the week before Christmas, so I’ve been enjoying spending some time in the kitchen and learning new ways to prepare plant-based recipes.
Today, I am reviewing a vegan sweet treat. Today’s review consists of two of the recipes in the Skinny Bitch Ultimate Everyday Cookbook. Orange Scones is a new recipe to me, but I have made upon many occasions, the Buttercream Frosting recipe. Although the scone recipe does not require you to use the buttercream frosting recipe, I thought it would be a welcomed addition.
This recipe is the second recipe in Kim Barnouin’s’s cookbook and is located in the breakfast section of the cookbook.
This recipe is packed full of orange flavours from both grated orange zest and pure orange extract, so if you love orange flavours like I do, you’re in for a real treat. I am so glad Kim added this scone recipe into this cookbook. I really enjoyed it and I will be making it again in future.
This orange scone recipe would be perfect as a brunch item, or to grab and go on the way into work. I would even bring this to the cottage as a weekend treat (if I had a cottage 😀 ).
There are two small things I would change about this recipe, but they are minor. I would bake at a higher heat of 400F for 20-25 minutes, rather than as directed at 350F for 15 minutes. Again these are minor revisions to the recipe, but I thought I would flag for those trying this recipe out for the first time. I had to adjust the heat at the end and bake for a longer duration.
The Buttercream Frosting recipe has always been a hit for me. It is a bit on the sweet side, but the almond and vanilla flavours combined are so delectable even on the orange scones.
Overall, these two plant-based recipes are a big hit for me. I hope you’ll give them a try.
