Happy Halloween! This post runs down the highlights from our weekend past. We had a fun Fall weekend and ready to get back to the routine of our week.
Friday night, I got together with some friends to celebrate a birthday. We tried out a new to me restaurant called Caro on James Street North in Hamilton. The ambiance was perfect for such a special night. I wouldn’t say they had the best vegan selection, but the Arugula Salad I did have was delicious!
After dinner, a few of us gathered at one of our friends’ houses to continue the celebration. I found it hard to hear the conversations happening around the table during dinner, so it was nice to gather in a more quiet environment and catch up with everyone.
Saturday morning, I looked outside and saw leaves everywhere. We have two maple trees in our front yard. The large one is 19 years old and is as big as our house. I raked and bagged 7 yard waste bags of leaves in the front yard alone which is a lot considering we have such a tiny front yard. I also pulled the white putunias out from the front of our fence and meticulously removed all the leaves from the sage plants. It wasn’t long before the sage plants were covered with leaves again, but oh my … it was nice for just a moment. I know I’ll be out there raking leaves again this week to stay on top of it.
I hosted dinner Saturday night for our family. The older boys were home from school for the night/week, so my mom and my son’s girlfriend joined us. After dinner, we turned the Halloween music on and the kids … I should say young adults plus my youngest, started carving pumpkins. It’s been a tradition in our home to carve pumpkins since the boys were just little. Here they are now 18 and 19 years old and are still up for carving pumpkins! I know this may be the last time for them, but my little guy still enjoys it, so I’ll keep going for him, so he continues to enjoy this tradition too. Here is how the pumpkins turned out. They did a great job free-styling all of their jack-o-lanterns and that will help draw the few kids in that come by on Halloween night.
My mom volunteered to separate the pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin strands. I’m going to season them and roast them for snacks. I’ll share that process later in the week. She’s such a great sport 😉
Sunday was a very quiet day. We need those every once in awhile. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Thanks for letting me share our weekend with you.
I hope all the kids enjoy trick-or-treating tonight. Remember to wear reflective clothing. Stay safe.
